Tiffany: Modern Love Campaign Film

“Modern Love” Valentine’s Day campaign film for Tiffany

As a lover of pinball and arcades, co-directing the Tiffany “Modern Love” valentine’s day window campaign film with Stassmonster was a dream to make and gave us the opportunity to have a lot of creative fun. As a kid I spent a significant amount of time in arcades. I used to bang the coin waterfall machine gently enough to not set off the alarm but enough to drop a coin or two so I could play some free games.

I still love arcades and pinball to this day. I have such fond memories of hanging out at Clockwork in the Lower East Side and my good friend Boogie and I would challenge each other in an attempt to get that ever coveted three initials in the first place on the machine – MUG.

Our “Modern Love” film highlights four different Tiffany windows that were inspired by the charm and feeling of entering an arcade during their heyday in the 80’s. What unfolds is a visually gorgeous mix of arcade and pinball inspired window design fueled by a synthwave soundtrack, a rich color palette and vibey foley. Shot over two days in December 2020 we used vintage Canon K35 lenses to help cement our 80’s cinematic look. The subtle purple blacks of the K35 lenses helped round-out our already rich color palette.

Unique video edit techniques helped give a CRT monitor feel and purposefully double LUTed some shots to over saturate and extend our 80’s vintage feel. A variety of video game inspired projections were created in advance of the shoot to help seamlessly bounce from game to game – much like you would do at an arcade in person. Everything resolves in the final moments where we see an arcade game visual depicting a second player enter the game (Enter Player Two) as our campaign film ends back outside the “Tiffany World” version of their New York flagship store.
